Hi everyone,
My computer suddenly stopped working after six months of light use. I hadn’t made any software or hardware changes before it failed. When I tried to restart it, I heard a clicking sound and noticed the machine was stuck in a repetitive cycle of turning on and off. Eventually, it stopped completely. Now the fans are spinning nonstop, there’s a red LED on the JFP1 area, and the monitor isn’t responding.

I attempted the following fixes:
- Cleared CMOS by holding down 5/10 seconds with the PC off – no improvement.
- Removed RAM one at a time – nothing changed.
- Disconnected the GPU and connected the display directly to the motherboard – still no effect.
- Tested the monitor on another PC – it worked fine there.

Current setup:
- Motherboard: MSI MEG Z690I UNIFY
- CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K (3.2/5.2 GHz)
- Cooler: Noctua HN-U12A
- GPU: RTX 3080
- RAM: Kingston FURY Beast DDR5 64 GO (2*32)
- SSD: 1*Samsung 980 PRO MZ-V8P1T0BW M.2 PCIe 4.0 1T
- Power Supply: Corsair SF750 with 80+ Platinum
- Fans: Noctua
- Case: Cooler Master NR200P Mini ITX

I invested a lot in this setup and it’s essential for my work. I really need it.

I might consider a different power source, be sure to utilize the connections from the new one if you plan to purchase one.

Checked the 24-pin connector using a multimeter; results show 12v, +3.3v, or -12v per pin. What should I investigate further?

You didn't check the supply under load. It's possible the motherboard had issues early on. Remove the 3080 and see if the built-in graphics work.

Having 3080 unplugged and HDMI directly connected to the motherboard doesn’t produce any signal on the monitor. The red LED on JFP1 remains lit while all fans are running, even the ones built into the motherboard.

Test the ram 1 at a time. Not much left to go wrong. CPU's least likely. Motherboard, PS or RAM. CPU? If all else fails.

I attempted the ram 1 individually but found no improvement. Since I don’t have a backup and it’s the most affordable choice, I’ll let a professional inspect the key parts.

The motherboard was the problem, I swapped it with a Z790I and everything is functioning properly now. I still don’t understand why it stopped working suddenly.
