PC starts up unpredictably The system fails to power on consistently
Shut down your PC last night as usual and went to sleep. The mouse tends to stay on when the system is off, which is why I didn’t notice anything unusual this morning. When I tried to turn it back on, the power button didn’t work at all. It’s connected to a high-quality surge protector, but there’s no indicator light showing a power surge occurred overnight. I tested other outlets without success. Eventually, I had to jump the board with a screwdriver and heard a click from the power supply, but nothing else happened. It feels like I’m operating a defibrillator on a mannequin—no signs of life.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting steps before replacing the PSU? The board is nearly eight years old, and the PSU is around seven years old. I’d like to explore other options before buying a new PSU and motherboard.
It could be useful to specify whether this applies to a prebuilt setup or if custom specifications are needed. It's tough to suggest trying to solve an unknown issue on an 8-year-old's computer.
I considered it and it doesn’t seem worthwhile. I’ve already filed the warranty claim with EVGA because the PSU comes with a ten-year warranty. I’m grateful to myself for not giving in. The details are in my signature.
