I recently installed a UPS on my PC and configured it to hibernate during power outages. However, my system frequently wakes up immediately after entering hibernation. It works fine when the USB cable is removed, but the hibernation fails. My PC runs Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24.04, and I followed the apcupsd setup instructions from CyberCiti. I also don’t encounter this problem when using suspend mode. I need the PC to hibernate so I can continue my project calculations without interruption. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
This setup helps conserve power by putting the system into a low-energy state. It works well with an APC UPS to extend battery life.
Use a different USB port for the UPS cable, ideally one that isn’t active during hibernation. Back panel ports are usually safer in this regard. If the issue continues, you might need to decide between a system that stays in hibernation or one that wakes via USB.
I attempted this, but within the time it takes to kill the ups the system wakes up and gets cut off during the wakeup process. It also prevents the PC from waking again when power is restored.
I understand how to adjust settings on my Asus ROG Strix board, though it varies by manufacturer and model. In the Advanced mode, navigate to the Advanced menu then the APM configuration sub-menu. You'll see several choices such as Wake-up Like Wake from USB, Wake from LAN, and Wake from RTC. If you look in your BIOS, these options should be available if your motherboard supports them. You can try enabling the ERP ready setting so your computer won't provide power to USB devices when shut down. This may disable the wake-on-usb if there is no power for USB devices. Other than that, I'm running blind because I can't find an online reference for that BIOS. Good luck !
