PC starts sometimes but doesn't work properly.
Turn off the system, disconnect all power sources, and gently touch the GPU, memory modules, and cable connectors to verify they’re correctly positioned. My recently finished 5900X with RTX3060ti in March began behaving erratically at random, refusing to fully boot last night. I opened the case as instructed and found no further issues. Sometimes heat expansion during power cycles can affect contact between components and sockets. If this doesn’t resolve it, a faulty PSU, weak or unstable capacitors might be the cause. Does this only happen after long shutdowns, or also on restarts? If it’s more common during extended downtime, capacitors could be the culprit since they handle startup surges and can fail if voltage drops when idle. For instance, if the problem disappears within minutes of powering back up but persists after an hour or two of shutdown, capacitors in the PSU may be at fault.
Without more information I would examine your motherboard, power supply, and power source. It might also help to test a different power button as a budget-friendly alternative if you have another case nearby. In reality it could be anything at all. Are there any additional symptoms? Spinning fans, lights, noises, display activation and refusal of input, etc. Edit: Follow @An0maly_76 first, much simpler to re-seat cables.
It’s not necessary to use a screwdriver to short the pins. The focus should be on checking the system specifications and reviewing any recent changes or troubleshooting steps you’ve taken.
Everything seems to function, though the PC won't start and it feels unpredictable. I've gotten used to it, but I'm planning to fix it. Thanks!
If everything seems to be working but you're not seeing a display, I recommend switching to another monitor or HDMI/DP/VGA cable. Make sure the display is powered on and the right port is selected. Consider reseating the GPU (if possible) or removing the GPU to test the integrated graphics.
