PC starts again after a 30-second pause
Hey people, a friend of mine is having a bit of an issue with his PC. When he turns it on, the fans seem to start at full speeds, and he gets a pop up on his screen saying no signal. The PC takes around 30 seconds and then the fans settle down, and then the PC boots up as normal. The PC runs as normal once this process has done, but happens every time, on a restart or full shut down and turn on. I've asked him to unplugged all connected cables apart from the screen, but does the same thing. I'm on my way there now, but don't want to start unplugging cables etc if it's an easy fix. He has a ryzen x3d CPU, Not sure which one, a 4080 Thanks in advance
Hello. It seems you're dealing with memory issues on every boot, likely because the small battery in the motherboard is depleted. Take it out, get a fresh one from a store that sells button cells, and install it. The memory training should reset once the new battery is in place. If this doesn't fix the problem, your friend might need to replace the motherboard itself.
Well, perhaps not swap it out entirely, but accept it as is since it functions. I’m still curious though—30 seconds seems short. Training likely takes much longer than that. Are there any internal components like PCIe cards, mechanical hard drives, or optical drives (CD/DVD/BR) that could be slowing things down? Also, are USB devices such as memory sticks a factor?
Hey, thanks for your responses. It's a completely new build, so I'm surprised the battery wouldn't have failed, but unexpected things can happen. I've reset the motherboard settings to check, but that didn't help. I made sure only the monitors were connected during another boot, just to be safe. I timed it myself, and from powering on to a successful boot, it took about 35 seconds—definitely not a major problem, though it would be great to figure this out for peace of mind. As I mentioned earlier, as soon as power is applied, the fans, cooler, GPU all kick in at full speed, then gradually slow down before normal startup. Internally, there are two M.2 drives and no HDDs; it's quite minimal, just the essential components.
It all comes down to when the mobile was first placed inside its case at the factory.
Verify BIOS updates—they might be causing POST delays. Possibly the GPU or RAM could also be involved, as suggested, especially after resetting CMOS.
My BIOS settings typically have MCR disabled, possibly related to an Asus device.
