PC shutting down during gaming sessions
PC shutting down during gaming sessions
I had never faced this issue before, and it began after switching from 1080p to 1440p. Indeed, I purchased a new monitor, and it was during that transition that the problem started...
In short, my computer would suddenly shut down at random moments while playing, but I couldn't pinpoint the cause at first. Initially, I suspected the power supply unit, so I upgraded it from 850w (thermaltake toughpower) to 1000w, yet the issue persisted.
I checked the RAM, changed the SSD where the games were installed, tried various GPU driver versions, but nothing helped.
Temperatures are normal for a tropical climate, and with demanding games, both CPU and GPU remained under 70°C.
There was no BSOD or PSOD—just the computer turning off completely.
Games tested:
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Resident Evil 4 remake, Dead Space Remake, Age of Empires IV, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Baldur's Gate 3
Specifications:
OS: Windows 11
GPU: AMD Radeon 6800XT
CPU: Ryzen 5700x
RAM: 32 GB, 3200mhz
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide complete system details. List the specifications as follows:

Include the PSU age along with its make and model. Also, note the current BIOS version for your motherboard.
CPU model is AMD Ryzen 7 5700x with cooler Corsair A500. Motherboard is Asus Tuf gaming b450-plus II. RAM includes XPG 32 GB at 3200mhz. Storage setup features two NVMe M2 SSDs (1 TB each), two SATA SSDs (1 TB each), and one HDD for storage. GPU is AMD Radeon 6800xt. Power supply is Thermaltake toughpower 850w gold plus. Chassis type is Thermaltake ATX H350-tg. Operating system is Windows 11 Pro. Display is Samsung Odyssey G5 QHD. PSU age is 9 months, BIOS version is 4401.
The issue began after I upgraded my monitor from 1080p to 1440p. Essentially, the computer would shut down every time I was gaming, only during demanding games. There were no BSODs, no PSODs, and no resets—just a complete power-off.
I attempted several solutions:
1. Installed a more powerful PSU, switching from 850W to 1000W temporarily.
2. Replaced my motherboard with a new one.
3. Performed stress tests on the GPU, which handled high demands without problems (e.g., Furmark 2 at maximum settings).
4. Ran memory tests using MemTest86 and moved RAM to another PC.
5. Formatted the main SSD and reinstalled the operating system.
6. Updated all drivers.
7. Ensured the BIOS was current.
8. Obtained a new voltage regulator.
9. Checked that events indicated the PC wasn’t properly shut down.
10. Monitored temperatures with Afterburner; GPU stayed under 80°C, CPU under 70°C.
Games tested included Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Age of Empires IV, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and Baldur's Gate 3.
The PC would turn off randomly after 5, 10, or 30 minutes of gaming. I could only play these titles at lower settings. Games like League of Legends or emulators (such as Yuzu) worked smoothly for extended periods, but only when I reduced the settings. The problem was strictly with high-demand titles.
