PC shutting down during gameplay
My PC has been experiencing frequent hard freezes over the last three months without any resolution. The interruptions occur during game launches lasting between five to ten minutes, causing complete system freezes (unable to use alt tab, ctrl+alt+del, crtl+shift+esc). To recover, I have to keep pressing the power button until the PC restarts. After rebooting and restarting the game, it stops crashing until I turn off and back on the machine the following day.
The temperatures during these episodes were between 50-60°C for the CPU and 60-70°C for the GPU.
Hardware details:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- CPU cooler: Coolermaster MasterLiquid ML240L ARGB V2
- Motherboard: MSI B450M Tomahawk Max
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB (8GB x2) at 3200Mhz
- Storage: WD SN550 SSD, 2x WD HDD
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC 8GB
- Power supply: FSP Hydro GE 650w Gold
- Operating system: Windows 10
I have tried various solutions: moving games to C drive (WD SN550 SSD) and E drive (WD HDD), updating GPU drivers, reinstalling Windows 10, resetting the OS, and even a full BIOS update. All attempts either failed temporarily or lasted only about ten days before recurring.
The crashes affected several titles, including Genshin Impact, Cyberpunk, Warframe, and The Finals.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
PSU: FSP Hydro GE 650w Gold
What is the age of your PSU? Have you tested running the build with a stable PSU that provides at least 650W across the entire system?
Motherboard: MSI B450M Tomahawk Max
For clarity, please mention the BIOS version currently active.
