PC shuts down upon starting any application after installing a new SSD.
Updated an SSD and backed up all my data. Gaming performed well until two days ago. FPS dropped significantly, games would crash to the desktop, now they barely launch at all. After reinstalling Windows on both drives, I moved the M.2 slots on my motherboard but nothing worked. This issue hasn’t happened before—Windows functions normally, but games struggle during playback. When loading a game, CPU usage hits 100%, while GPU and CPU temps stay under 70°C. Specs: 9700k, 32GB RAM, ASRock Z390 ITX, EVGA 1080Ti SC2 SF600 PSU, TeamGroup M44L (new SSD), Samsung PM951 (old SSD).
It seems you're asking about the connection type and requirements for your setup. Are you confirming details like SATA, M.2, or SSD specifications? Did you need to specify any particular requirements? Let me know so I can help further.
I've heard about SF power supplies reaching up to 1000 watts. You might need something more powerful than what you currently have.
The system has worked well for three years now. I think the PSU isn’t providing enough power. It’s also worth noting I’m well within the recommended limits.
It seems the power supply might be insufficient or there’s an issue with the M.2 SSD. The 1080 model was designed for a 650W PSU, so you’ve been underpowered consistently. The click sound suggests there are safety relays in the PSU that could trigger if problems arise. Consider getting a replacement that can be returned if it doesn’t resolve the issue. Another option is to use a separate USB external case with its own power supply. Likely the problem lies with either the PSU or the drive itself.
Average wattage just represents an average; spikes are common. It’s been tough enough with 30 series models ze2 and higher, and LGA1700 that manufacturers now say minimum specs aren’t enough. Also, a power supply unit should usually be double the maximum capacity since efficiency is typically around 50%. GL
