PC shuts down unexpectedly for a brief moment
Some time back, my PC began freezing intermittently for brief moments, then resumed as if nothing occurred. The screen would freeze, making it impossible to use the mouse or keyboard, and the audio would cut out entirely, leaving only a persistent ‘ticking’ noise. This only happens occasionally, and sometimes the last sound plays repeatedly, sounding like a ‘BRRRRRR’ noise. It appears this only happens for short periods. I haven’t identified any patterns; my CPU temperatures look normal and no resource-heavy program was detected. It seems the issue might be linked to Chrome, as it only occurs when I use that browser. I need to investigate further for more information.
My setup includes an Intel i5 8600k processor, a GTX 1080 (AMP!Extreme by Zotac), an Asus Prime Z370-A motherboard, and 16 GB DDR4 RAM capable of running at 3000Mhz. At the moment, it operates at that speed only after overclocking in the BIOS for troubleshooting. I reverted all overclock settings because the problem began after updating the BIOS and reverted to default values. I tested reverting BIOS versions, updated drivers, and even replaced thermal paste, but nothing resolved the issue. I also disconnected and reinserted the GPU, cleaned the CPU heat paste, but it didn’t help.
It seems you're experiencing some minor performance hiccups after overclocking your CPU. You might want to increase the voltage or reduce it slightly to see if that helps.
I reset my OC settings to the standard values. It should remain consistent across these temperatures. Or?
I don't own any OC tools—my setup uses the UEFI of my mainboard. I have a Corsair TX650M 650W module, but I'm planning to enable XMP quickly. As requested, I'll proceed with testing for stability by running normal tasks first. Thanks for your patience—I'll update you once I have results.
Consider restarting your system as a final resort. The XMP profile didn't resolve the problem.
You could be running behind sometimes, but I can reinstall the operating system.
Verify your GPU, update drivers, reduce clock speed with MSI Afterburner or similar tools.
