PC shuts down unexpectedly (crashes) during restart in Windows 11.
Hello, my computer shuts down unexpectedly. I believed I resolved the issue by adding a CPU driver through Windows. Once installed manually, the unknown device in Device Manager vanished and there were no more crashes. However, today it happened again. This is puzzling: before the restart, the GPU fans increased to full speed for about five seconds, then the screen went dark and the system rebooted as though nothing occurred. My Event Viewer records identical events just before the crash. The failure happens even when CPU and GPU usage are minimal—just while watching YouTube or working on code. Temperatures are normal thanks to the installed HWinfo and temperature warnings set for both components. I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Specs: i3-12100F RTX 3070, 8GB RAM, 550W quiet power, Gigabyte B660M PSU, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, Samsung 980 Pro. Critical_error.xml provided.
Consider repositioning the power cables. For a modular PSU, verify the power supply section of the cable as well. While doing this, examine the pins to ensure they aren’t too deeply embedded in the casing. Have you attempted using a synthetic load through software such as OCCT? Does that trigger the machine to restart?
You're welcome for your response. I didn't use OCCT, but I tested various benchmarks such as 3D Mark. I recently purchased a new CPU and PSU—not because of any crashes, but due to a significant bottleneck. I plan to install them first and then check if the issue persists. One question remains: do you know why your GPU fans increase to 80–90%?
Increased fan activity may stem from a faulty driver, excessive heat, or problems with power supply.
I just put in my new CPU (had to replace my old PSU because it was faulty). The issue came back, but my old PSU seems capable enough for the new setup—so it’s likely failing. It’s been around about six years.
The issue stems from power delivery problems, often caused by damaged cables or misaligned connections, rather than a weak power supply unit.
the psu fan didn't spin and nothing occurred when i powered up the pc. fortunately, my neighbor provided me with a psu that he no longer uses because he ordered the incorrect model for his new build. i installed it today and everything is functioning properly without any crashes so far.
