Hi, recently the UK has experienced some unusual problems. My external hard drive has been behaving oddly—after about five minutes it won’t load properly. (Photo 1) Trying to eject it takes time, and after roughly forty seconds it appears but then remains inaccessible. (Photo 2) The drive refuses to let me read the data, showing “file not accessible” and indicating a disk issue. (Photo 3) It mentions the disk isn’t working and can’t access raw drives. This issue started since the Gigabyte BIOS update on June 1st, when strange PC behavior began.

The disk appears to be a problem. Would you like me to run Crystaldiskinfo to check?

Sure, just to clarify—only your OS drive appears unless you make a mistake, right?

You said it was your external drive, right? It might be the USB board that failed instead of the hard drive. You could remove the case and try linking it directly to your PC with a SATA cable or use a HDD cradle.

No indeed just one drive lol. It doesn't show up. Maybe try a different port, or try the disk on another pc. Could also be an adapter / controller issu of the external case. There should be a regular sata drive inside. If you can't get it to work might be worth it to get it out and try it directly on a sata port of a pc. Assuming you want to extract the files / it's not under warranty.

I adjusted the BIO settings to their default state, and the drive has started again, everything functioning properly now. This seems unusual. While I was composing my message, it appeared that all my data disappeared, but after checking the disk, it reappeared as if the drive had been formatted, yet it’s now working correctly. All my information is back where it should be. I’m really confused about what’s happening, and I suspect the issue might be related to the motherboard.

Make sure to save crucial documents. I wouldn’t rely on that storage right away.
