Hey there, yes you got it right. This is definitely odd because I've never worked on fixing something like this before. Eventually, different systems stop working even when they're idle. I'm streaming a YouTube video in the background to prevent Chrome from crashing while I write. The problem seems to start from the beginning of this PC's life, though it's getting more common lately. I've always had a solid grasp on hardware, worked in IT for a while, and now I'm focusing on architecture and security. My build uses top-tier parts with good cooling.
What I don't face is anything heavy while the PC isn't doing much. I'm playing 4K/VR for long, watching videos casually, and streaming Discord chats—mostly what I use this machine for. But I run into issues when nothing seems to be using much resources.
Specifically, I notice these crashes: Chrome throws STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION and STATUS_BREAKPOINT dwm.exe, I struggle with Windows debugging, the event log isn't detailed, and my displays keep restarting. Discord just shuts down and restarts, showing render process crashes in logs.
I've tried everything: reinstalling Windows 11, updating drivers, running MemTest86+, using multiple CPU profiles, and even disabling XMP. Performance checks with CB and 3DMark show no issues. I'm not overclocking, and I don't have any problems with load or stability.
Could you help me figure out what's going on? If it's a hardware problem, I don't know which component to check—GPU, motherboard, or something else. Any test cases or steps you recommend would be super appreciated. Thanks a lot!
