PC restarts during gameplay without a blue screen or minidump file.
This problem has been ongoing for some time, though I rarely play games that trigger it. Currently, I only know of BF2042 and Forza Horizon 5, but there have been a few more releases recently so I’ve forgotten about them. My PC restarts completely after about 20 minutes or an hour if I don’t cap the framerate, and no minidumps appear in the event viewer, nor any BSODs. I have another PC and swapped my GPU there, hoping that would resolve it, but I can’t replicate the issue. I also ran a superposition stress test for nearly two hours without it affecting me, so I’m considering trying MemTest, though I haven’t started yet. I’m unsure if anyone here has any advice.
Specs:
i7 12700K
ASUS 3080TI TUF Gaming OC 12GB
Gigabyte Z690 GAMING X DDR4
G.Skill 32GB 2x16GB Trident Z Neo 3600MHz
Corsair 850W RM850
x3 M.2 SSD
x1 1TB HDD
x1 External 6TB HDD
x1 Soundcard
No OS changes have been made, and XMP is enabled. I suspect a power issue since my GPU and CPU would likely throttle before a crash, but I’m not sure how to test that. Also, I didn’t think it was overheating—CPU temps under 65°C, GPU between 65-70°C.
ram wouldn't cause restarts in my experience, more likely freezes and BSOD... which you don't get. No BSOD means its hardware of some sort. i assume temps are under load latest bios on motherboard? how new is PSU? Best way to test PSU is multimeter. Only other ways confirm it works (we known that) or BIOS which isn't under load, so doesn't really help. the paper clip method - https://forums. or multimeter https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-manually...er-2626158 or in the BIOS to check the +3.3V, +5V, and +12V. - https://www.lifewire.com/power-supply-vo...es-2624583 Software also isn't really accurate enough.
850 should suffice for the system according to Corsair PSU Calc. What was the PSU in another PC? Try running this on CPU - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...-tool.html
I wouldn't assume it was PSU based on that. It's possible to overlook it without tests, and I prefer not to make assumptions. Corsair offers similar models too long ago. There are RM850, RM850e, and RM850x now. Some of these models date back to 2009, making it tricky to find the right one. Does Super Position also have good sound quality? I don't remember it clearly, but I'm curious if it's handling stress like a game would. I tried unplugging extra devices, like an external HDD, to check if it was draining power and causing restarts.
In general, crashes without logs usually point to hardware issues, often power-related. It seems you've already eliminated graphics problems by testing on another machine. This suggests the CPU, PSU, or motherboard are likely next in order of probability. Running CPU tests (like OCCT for system checks) and 3dmark for combined CPU/GPU evaluation could help. Alternatively, performing CPU and GPU tests together might provide more comprehensive stress results.
Model number CP-9020232-AU shows sound, though it's currently turned off; I'm planning to conduct some 3D mark tests now.
Sorry for the delayed reply, but here’s what happened since my last comment.
- Moved the GPU to another PC and attempted replication, but after a few hours it didn’t work so I reverted.
- Ran DDU to reinstall the latest studio drivers.
- Disconnected everything and it stopped crashing for a couple of days before failing again after about two hours of playing bf2042.
- Performed a stress test on superposition for more than an hour without any crashes.
- Memtest passed.
- Uncertain if connected, but when downloading on Steam (with gigabit internet), I reached up to 75MB and experienced lag spikes even though the CPU usage in Task Manager was around 30% and disk usage remained low. This has been ongoing for some time; I suspect it might be related to this PC, so I tried downloading the same game on another machine, which worked smoothly at 110MB/s with no issues. Probably unrelated, but I don’t know what could be causing this.
Download speed:
Windows 10 or 11?
If 10, download Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) - Not Support Power Saving
If 11, download Win11 Auto Installation Program (NetAdapterCx) - Not Support Power Saving
Both versions are probably newer than what you currently have. Gigabyte hasn't released updates since 2022.

Oops!
I'm not sure if it's just because. I don't see many situations where network drivers trigger a restart.
