Avoid using the recovery disc to fix your files. For example, boot from the installation media and look for a repair option.

Only fix what’s needed. This may clear the last version if it’s causing issues. Applying a recovery point will restore everything back to that stage, meaning new installations after that will be erased. It doesn’t affect your personal files. If you choose to reinstall, the installer will ask if you want to retain current files, and if yes, the whole setup is saved in Windows.old folder.
