Hello everyone,
I've experienced intermittent crashes over the past few months, often resulting in a black screen. The monitor loses signal, and the PC neither powers off nor restarts, though audio may freeze briefly after the screen goes dark. Occasionally, fans increase their speed, but this only happens in a small number of incidents. These issues tend to appear during gaming sessions, but they've intensified recently, especially while watching YouTube.

My initial assumption was a CPU-related problem, given the overheating and the recent instability between Intel 13th and 14th generation processors. I noticed the CPU heating up rapidly during benchmark tests like Cinebench and 3DMark, reaching temperatures close to 100°C. After updating BIOS settings and reapplying thermal paste, temperatures stabilized, suggesting the issue might have been resolved. Still, it persists occasionally.

I ran memtest86 without errors, but during a Windows memory diagnostic test, the system crashed unexpectedly, turning off at that moment. It's unclear if this was related to the crashes or unrelated. I also enabled dumps, yet no files were created during the incidents. The Event Viewer displayed Event ID 41, with only standard events and all drivers up to date.

I attempted a clean Windows reinstall, but underclocking the CPU in Intel Extreme Tuning improved stability, reducing crashes significantly. However, it still occurs occasionally.

I'm running out of options and would appreciate any advice. I've attached a log from HWInfo that was active during the crashes. Someone more experienced might find something useful.

Hey there,
From what I've seen, such freezes are often memory-related. You can try memtest86+ on a bootable USB drive outside Windows and see if the program runs. If you encounter any errors, it might indicate a faulty RAM module.
What BIOS version are you using? Intel has just updated their Intel Default Settings BIOS, which could be useful.

Hi,
thank you for the response. I completed memtest86 on a bootable disk and found no problems, though the computer still crashed during Windows memory diagnostics. Regarding the BIOS, I'm using the latest version (ASUS 1658). I upgraded it because of CPU concerns mentioned earlier.

I also have the same cpu and am facing very similar stability problems right now. Your crashes seem quite alike to what I experienced a few months back with my RTX 4080, and it turned out the 12vhpwr cable was the issue.
