PC Specifications
Mobo: ASUS Z170-K
CPU: i7-6700K
GPU: GTX 1070
RAM: Corsair Vengeance (2 x 8GB) at 2400mhz
PSU: DeepCool PF550 (purchased in October 2023)

Over the past week, my computer has stopped working on its own. I received an anti-surge alert in the BIOS during startup, which was followed by a nearby storm that caused a transformer replacement. Recently, I encountered difficulties turning it on even after removing the RAM modules. After testing with ValleyBench, I concluded that one of my RAM sticks might be faulty, while the power supply and other parts seem fine.

Today, I’m unable to boot again, even after removing the RAM sticks. I’ve noticed this issue happens every time I move or clean the computer—often requiring three to four adjustments before the boot screen appears. It seems the storm may have been the final factor that overwhelmed my RAM.

My concern is whether these RAM sticks are the cause of the problem, or if the motherboard itself is defective (perhaps due to a loose slot instead of the RAM). I’ve tested the RAM in multiple slots; it works in 1 and 3 slots occasionally (though it needs frequent re-seating), but not in 2 or 4. This inconsistency makes me wonder if my motherboard slot is faulty, or if the PSU, despite passing stress tests, might be struggling under full load.

I’m hesitant about replacing the RAM entirely, as I can’t find compatible models for my current motherboard. There are no available options that support overclocking and are smaller than ATX. Please advise—should I replace the RAM or is this a waste of money?
