PC power/boot issues
Over a year ago I assembled a PC with these specifications:
Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4
PSU: Corsair RM 750x
CPU: Intel i9 12900k
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080
RAM: 48GB DDR4
It functioned smoothly until a month ago when it suddenly shut down while idle and wouldn’t restart.
There were no indicators or activity from the motherboard.
I brought it to a repair shop, who discovered the PSU was damaged as a safety precaution due to an electrical fault. I also observed melted plastic on my power cable, so I swapped both the power cable and extension cord.
For about a month everything appeared normal until yesterday. When trying to boot up the PC again, it failed once more. I inspected the motherboard for any lights and noticed the Ethernet port was still active.
After disconnecting it and waiting a few hours, it turned on automatically.
Today, I encountered the same problem, but after repeatedly pressing the power button, it finally started.
Is my PSU defective?
Are there any suggestions on how to further diagnose or verify if the PSU is the issue?
Or could another component be responsible here?
The phrase refers to a damaged or overheated power cable, suggesting it is not suitable for its intended use.
Extension cord is this:
My original power cord was intended for use in the UK, but I'm in the EU. The UK and EU have different power outlets, so I used an adapter for my power cord. The adapter got a bit damaged, so I discarded it and purchased a new cord that works with my EU outlet. Right now I'm using both a fresh extension cord and a new power cord.
