Hello, last year I assembled my PC and observed that it frequently powers off unexpectedly while using ZBrush, requiring me to restart the power supply unit before it boots again. I believed I resolved the issue by switching my RAM voltages from auto to 1.35V. It functioned temporarily but recently it shuts down without warning or any logs beyond a general failure. Since it’s hard to recreate the situation in ZBrush (which relies only on RAM and CPU), I decided to run Memtest64 to stress-test my memory and it would crash after 1-2 hours at high usage or instantly at full capacity. I haven’t encountered any issues with games or benchmarking. Updating the BIOS didn’t help either. Could be a motherboard or RAM problem? I’m uncertain what to do next—I might need to replace the power supplies to test, but I’d appreciate your advice before making changes. Build details: Asus ROG STRIX B550 - A Gaming (BIOS 2803), AMD Ryzen 7 5900X, EVGA RTX 3080 Ti, 3 Ultra DDR4 3600MHz, Corsair RM850X, 850W, Samsung 980 Pro M.2 1TB.

It seems your RAM or clock signal might be fluctuating, often causing a BSOD.

It operates as expected when memory is set to its standard rate.

Remove one memory stick, rerun the test, then switch to isolate. They don’t need a bank.

Sorry for the delayed response. I checked the dimmer units in a few setups using memtest, and here are the findings: [Dual channel] 2133 Mhz 1.2v - Shuts down in 2-5 minutes at 3600 Mhz 1.35v [DOCP]; [Single Channel Dimm 1] 2133 Mhz 1.2 - Passed for 2 hours; [Single Channel Dimm 2] 2133 Mhz 1.2 - Passed for 2 hours. The dual channel version shuts down faster and is less stable at stock 2133 Mhz compared to the 3600 Mhz DOCP model. You’re considering new units from the same line—have you tried other components besides the RAM?

You've connected your RAM to slots A1, A2, B1, and B2 in a 4-slot configuration.

Installed new dimmers with the same skill level as before. At 2133 MHz they’re stable after a 1.5–2 hour test using slots A2 and B2. The next test will run at 3600 MHz DOCP—if it works, it’s likely the previous units didn’t handle dual channel well for some reason.

Additional dimms successfully completed a 2-hour stress test at 3600 MHz DOCP, indicating the problem is resolved. Should I experience another shutdown in the upcoming weeks, I'll post an update. Appreciate your assistance.

PSU was the issue, so I switched to a 1000W power supply. It's working fine now for months. Updated on August 9, 2023 by Erasius Solution
