Hey there! Just a quick note – this problem actually affects two different machines at once. I assembled a fresh setup yesterday using parts from both my old PC and new components. Still, the challenge persists. Current details: CPU: i7 11700k, GPU: MSI GTX 1070 ti (from the previous machine), RAM: 2x16GB 2400MHz C16 Vengeance LPX, cooler: Noctua NH-D15, storage: Crucial P5 250GB M.2 NVME SSD (from the old one), HDD: 2015 WD Blue 2TB (from the old one), power supply: EVGA Supernova 750 G3, case: Aerocool GT Black.
Old specs were: CPU i5 4690k, GPU 1st GTX 680, RAM MSI Z97 Gaming 5, cooler Corsair Vengeance Pro, boot drive Crucial P5, SSD same as now, HDD and PSU identical, case same.
Now about the situation: when I power on, everything seems to function normally – light apps like Opera GX, Discord, Spotify work perfectly. But when I launch a game, it crashes instantly and restarts. It’s like the GPU was the culprit at first, but now even with the upgraded 1070 ti, the problem recurs. The more powerful card makes it worse. On the old machine with the older GPU, full gaming sessions were possible. Still, the new setup is struggling.
I suspected a motherboard issue because the Z97 board had its PCI-E slot completely removed, though all pins stayed intact. The previous owner had accidentally left the latch open when installing the GPU. I also considered a PSU fault since my current PSU is over 5 years old. But after trying various fixes – driver resets, fresh Windows install, changing boot settings, removing the HDD, and even running the old GTX 680 – the issue keeps coming back.
I’m at a loss. Local repair shops nearby don’t handle custom builds, and the only tech-savvy person nearby is a long way away. I’m turning to forums for advice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I forgot to note that I was using Windows 10 Pro 21H2 at the time.
Well dear friend, I've been playing with the PC connected to the wall for about two hours and it's all functioning properly. I didn't expect this to be the problem since the extension cord cost me nearly 60 quid. Thanks for bringing that up. It doesn't matter. The second time I turned on War Thunder, it did exactly the same thing. Updated September 23, 2022 by wrobelx
