Hey, I remember about a year ago when I was playing more games, around 20 minutes into Planet Zoo or Phasmophobia, my PC would suddenly crash and restart, as if nothing happened. After that, I stopped gaming and mostly used the computer for work, school, and browsing. Recently I’ve started playing again and the issue happened twice with Valheim. Now that I’ve lowered the graphics settings to almost minimum, it doesn’t restart unexpectedly. I’ve checked my drivers and temperatures stay below 70°C. I’m running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit. Any thoughts on what might be causing these random shutdowns?

You might want to test it on a single stick of RAM to check stability during diagnostics. If it works under light load, it may point to power or GPU issues. Switch to another power supply and observe the results.

If the internet agrees, the monitor displays 1440p. If you hit the 6GB VRAM limit at higher settings on your GTX 1660, shared memory might struggle. Reducing texture quality usually cuts VRAM demand, and 6GB for 1440p in 2023 is quite limited in many titles.

You're welcome on the feedback. It seems the issue might be related to power or GPU capacity, especially under heavy load. For your current PSU, a better GPU would likely help, though saving for one is a smart move. Regarding your gaming experience: even at high settings with 60fps, crashes can occur due to insufficient VRAM usage—possibly because the game isn't utilizing all available memory properly. Check if the game is optimized or if there are memory leaks affecting performance.

650W sits in an unusual range because most recent GPUs are either 750W or 850W at the high mid to upper tiers. The top end reaches up to an RX 6700 XT from the previous generation delivering 650W. A solid 1440p GPU in 2023.

Don't assume anything without checking the power source. Suggesting a GPU for uncertain power quality would be risky.

This approach seems reasonable. It might be challenging to test the PSU without replacing it, so considering a new GPU with upgraded power supply later could work. Thanks for your advice!
