Hello everyone,
I’m experiencing a problem where my desktop PC shuts down unexpectedly, as though the power was cut abruptly. There are no blue screens or error messages, and the machine turns off instantly without warning. The PC is quite new—built in September 2025—and so far it has operated normally.

Here’s how I set it up:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: RTX 3080 Founders Edition
- Motherboard: MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi
- RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32Go (2x16Go) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 AMD EXPO (EXPO Enabled)
- Power supply: Should be an 850 gold modular from Corsair
- Storage: a few random HDDs and three SSDs, including a 990 Pro
- Operating system: Windows 11
- Power source: connected to a power strip I’ve used for a long time without issues

The issue is sudden and forceful, like pulling the power cable (event 41, Kernel Power). It can occur during heavy use or when idle. There are no BSODs, crash dumps, or Windows warnings. Temperatures appear normal from what I can observe.

What I’ve tried:
- Performed a power stress test using OCCT Power for 5 minutes
- No errors detected

I haven’t made any recent changes to the PSU, power strip, or BIOS.
Additional observations:
- The first shutdown occurred while I was sleeping
- Second while recording in idle mode
- Third before playing a game
- Fourth during full idle period

I’m eager to identify the root cause before replacing any components, especially the PSU. If you have suggestions on potential causes (PSU, motherboard, power delivery, BIOS, CPU/GPU problems, etc.) or recommendations for further testing, your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance 🙏

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
PSU: Should be 850 gold modular from corsair
You can take the side panel off your case in order to identify the unit. You're the one who owns the system and we'll be moving along with the info you provide. Please include the age of the unit and what it powered prior to the system listed above, if the PSU was recycled from an older build.
Storage: some random HDD, and 3 SSD including 990 pro (dunno if that's relevent here)
Please include the makes and models of all drives.
Temperatures seem normal from what I can see
What sort of temps are you seeing when idling and when at load for both the CPU and GPU?
How are you cooling the processor? What BIOS version are you currently on for your motherboard? Would be a good idea to see if all connections to your devices and from the PSU are fully seated.

Thanks for the answer Lutfij
I can confirm my PSU is a Corsair RM850 from 2021, it's indeed recycled from an older build, which had the 3080 GPU in with an i7-4790K CPU.
to specify my storages:
SSDs:
samsung 990 pro 2TO with heatsink
Samsung SSD 750 EVO 250gb
Crucial: CT240BX500SSD1
HDDs:
seagate baracuda 3TO ST3000DM008
seagate baracuda 1TO ST1000DM003
an external drive Seagate Expansion Drive of 5TO
EXPO was turned off from here
Idling temp from HWmonitor:
GPU :
33°C and and 37 Max
Memory 46°C, 60 Max
Hotspot 50°C and 71°C Max
CPU:
Cores(MAX) 30°C and 48°C Max
I did the stress test again on OCCT but this time my computer went off, even tho I feel like thats random, and when I tried to turn it on immediatly again went off, but for less than 5 min and i had:
CPU 95°C, 0.99V, 99.8W at 100%, 4200MHZ
Memory 38.5 50% 15500 MB,
GPU: 70°C at peak, 0.975V, 307W, 97% 1875MHZ, 1541MB
Bios version + date: American Megatrends International, LLC. 1.A68, 11/09/2025
Version SMBIOS 3.7
when i turned on my computer again it showed on occt no error detected
i'm cooling my processor with a Noctua NH-D15 G2
(my pc shutdown like 4 time as i was trying to write this lol, before today it was fine...)
sorry if that's a bit messy
thanks for the answer and thanks in advance!
EDIT: I tried OCCT again POWER 5min and this time it didn't shutdown so I really don't know..
