Hi guys, I'm reaching out about an issue with my desktop PC. After Christmas, I upgraded my old processor (Ryzen 5 3600) with a Ryzen 7 5700x+3d motherboard and added two banks of 2×8 GB RAM to my existing 16GB (totaling 32GB). I knew I needed to update the BIOS for compatibility, as the motherboard was 3000 series. But once the new CPU was installed, the PC wouldn't power on, so I suspected a BIOS issue. Since there was no LED, I tried updating via the flash bios button, but after plugging in the USB stick a few times, I realized I'd made an error. The next day, I swapped out the old CPU—this time it worked, but the screen didn't appear. In a panic, I searched online and attempted a BIOS reset by disconnecting the battery, though nothing changed. Now I'm unsure what to do next; I'm considering upgrading to a new CPU with 4x8 GB RAM. If you need more details, there are no issues reported.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
MSI b450 tomahawk max
Which BIOS version is installed on your motherboard?
Also, I’m adding two banks of 2×8 GB RAM to my existing 16GB (totaling 32GB).
Could you share details about your previous RAM setup and the new one? Links would be really useful.
It’s recommended to always update the BIOS and clear the CMOS before installing any hardware upgrades.
I’m unsure what to do next, but I want to upgrade the CPU and install 4x8 GB RAM.
This could put extra strain on the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC). For your Ryzen platform, a 2x16GB RAM kit would have provided better performance. Since you’re using an AM4 platform, you should consider a 2x6GB DDR4-3200MHz/3600MHz module with low latency.
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it’s best to include your full system specifications. Please list them clearly:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model.
Bios version for your motherboard at this time.

Hi, thank you for your message. I’m not sure which version I’m in at the moment, but for support purposes, I need to upgrade the BIOS from 7C02v3l. The new RAM specifications match the previous ones. It made sense to opt for a 2x16 GB configuration since I already had 2x8 GB installed.

Here are my details:
CPU: old (Ryzen 5 3600) → new (Ryzen 7 5700x+3d)
CPU cooler: Artic liquid freezer III 360 A-RGB WHITE
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
Ram: 4x8 Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3600Mhz
Storage: SSD (Samsung 970 EVO) + HDD (Seagate IronWolf 1TB)
GPU: MSI RX 3060 12GB
Power supply: Seasonic FOCUS PX-650 Fully modular 80PLUS PLATINUM
Chassis: NZXT H9 Flow
Operating system: Windows 11
Monitor: LG 24GN53A
