I tried two PSU units, swapping one from my own PC with the Integrator 600W model, but there was no difference. The other one was unbranded.

i found numerous sites claiming you require the F1 version of the motherboard, but it doesn't function properly. I'm confused.

PSU isn't the issue, only these things come to mind:
sata cables are all connected,
plugged into the SATA 1 header on the motherboard,
the system is correctly installed,
your PC power is plugged directly into the wall (sometimes using an extension lead doesn't work)
