PC might be losing power due to the PSU.
Hello! I've noticed some issues with my PC lately, especially random shutdowns. It sometimes won't post, loops for a while then restarts, and then works fine again. I've been using this system for about two years, with the GPU for roughly a year. There were no problems until about two weeks ago, so it's unclear if the PSU is the issue. After replacing the CMOS battery, it worked for a few days but still happens daily. My setup includes Windows 10, an i7 10700k CPU (no overclocking), a ZOTAC 3070ti GPU, 8x2 2400 RAM replaced with 16x2 3200, a 1TB NVMe SSD, two SATA SSDs, and a HDD. The PSU is a Corsair 750W unit. I often leave the PC open while sleeping, wondering if that might be contributing.
I've tried updating drivers (except BIOS), replacing the CMOS battery, checking temperatures during use, reseating GPU and RAM, and uninstalling Process Lasso, which I recently reinstalled as Bitsum Highest Performance. The problem started around when I installed it but has since disappeared after removal. I'm considering buying a new PSU as a last resort before making a purchase, as it would be a significant investment.
I experienced something quite alike—random crashes until it entered a loop, and the problem was my low-cost motherboard failing. It got resolved once I upgraded to a new one. When similar situations occur without spare parts available, it becomes tough to narrow down the cause. It’s unlikely it’s the power supply unit, since those issues usually appear under heavy use or prevent startup altogether. Boot loops could point to a motherboard or RAM issue. You might attempt running the system with just one RAM stick in different slots to observe changes. Switching sticks and testing connections can help determine if the problem lies in the slot or the stick itself. However, without a wide selection of replacement parts, it’s hard to be certain. If you remove a component, swap it for another, and watch what happens, you might get more clarity. My concern is that this seems like a motherboard failure, though I wouldn’t risk my firstborn for that conclusion.
Check the BIOS update and see if it remains installed for several hours
