PC making strange sounds just in games! Need help fast!
Vie recently installed a hardware upgrade and now, when I run games or any activity that uses my CPU, it produces this strange buzzing sound. I’ve checked the temperatures, but it doesn’t look like overheating is the issue—it might be related to the motherboard. My system specs are a Ryzen 5 5600X, B450M Steel Legend, Tforce 16 Nighthawk RAM, and an MSI 1650 Super. The noise only happens when the CPU is in use, not during idle times, and it’s not coming from my HDD. I’m worried about potential damage, so I need to act quickly to confirm. Thanks for reading.
It's coil whine, no major concern. Most modern GPUs experience this, as do motherboards and power supplies frequently. If it bothers you, consider an RMA. Some brands handle it as a valid reason for return, others don't. From my view, ASRock, Sapphire, and Be Quiet usually covered replacements or refunds under warranty, whereas MSI didn't. Be aware that the likelihood of getting the same issue back is high—learned the hard way. In certain situations, the noise might fade or lessen after a short period of use. You might also try lowering CPU and GPU voltages if you wish.
