Your PC uses powerline ethernet and has been stable for a while, but recently it's stopped working properly. Initially, it wouldn't connect due to an invalid IP address, so you replaced the adapter and now it works. However, accessing websites or other internet-dependent tasks still fails. You've tried clearing DNS and manually entering the IP, but nothing resolves the issue. Seek advice on further troubleshooting steps.

Check whether the power-line adapter is the source of the problem. This issue often stems from poor home wiring that most buyers overlook. Attach the computer directly to your router or network switch, or move the adapter to another circuit breaker and observe if performance improves. If results change in either case, the adapter is likely the culprit.

You asked about swapping or purchasing a new adapter. Did you change one of the two existing plugins, or did you acquire a fresh set? If only one plugin was replaced, was it identical to the original? You can run a command line command like "ping 8.8.8.8" to test connectivity.

Windows 7 generally resolves issues faster. The most effective approach is to eliminate likely causes first, such as PL adapters, which often fail or encounter problems. Skip them and connect directly to the router to observe the outcome.
