I recently upgraded both my RAM and motherboard, yet I notice my PC occasionally freezes between tasks. This issue didn’t occur with my old motherboard, and it also makes my system run much slower compared to when I had 8GB RAM. My current specs are: CPU - i7 4th gen, RAM - 32GB DDR3, graphics - 6GB GTX 1660, and a total of 32GB.
Increasing the RAM quantity and using more sticks raises the demand on MoBo's memory controller. It’s likely your older MoBo can no longer manage that much memory. Also, 32GB DDR3 is a significant amount, particularly considering most DDR3 setups were built with 4GB or 8GB RAM. I also have an Intel 4th generation CPU (Core i5) with 2x 8GB (16GB) RAM. This system has been running daily for the past eight years and recently began experiencing Memory Management BSoDs. However, these issues are my responsibility to resolve.
I'm curious if this might also explain the increased boot-up time compared to before.
Is the new RAM a complete 32 GB package or did you merely increase the existing amount by 24 GB? Was the motherboard upgrade accompanied by a full reset and reinstallation of Windows? It's usually recommended, but if performance problems arise, it's often the first step to address.
