I'm dealing with a problem that's really frustrating. When playing Nightreign, my computer just shuts down without any blue screen or lockup. If I move my character in that direction for a second before it stops, the shutdown happens almost instantly—like the controller becomes unresponsive for about a second before the PC turns off. In the Event Viewer it appears as ID 6008, but it doesn't give much useful information. Almost everything except the GPU is brand new. I replaced the PSU and case about two weeks ago, and the surge protector too. The CPU, RAM, and motherboard are only a month old. I recently installed a fresh Windows version. The most annoying part is how rare this occurs—three times in an hour over the past day, then it stopped for the rest of the day. It's been seven days since the last incident. This makes troubleshooting really tough.

I'm also using the Steam overlay while playing, and my CPU and GPU temperatures are in the 60s, which seems normal. There doesn't appear to be an overheating issue. I checked the integrity of the game files on Steam, and everything looked fine. I ran SFC and CHKDSK, both returned okay. A memory test also came back normal. I'm wondering if it's a driver conflict or maybe the gamepad is causing the shutdown. I can share any logs if you'd like. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What model of your PSU (brand, wattage, etc.) and GPU are you using? For future reference, I’d want to know all my hardware details—CPU, motherboard, RAM, hard drive, GPU, etc., including brand and model.

It’s tough to tell if your PSU is enough for your GPU (why did you change it then), or if there are other incompatibilities with the motherboard. Some GPUs might have driver problems with certain games.

I’m pretty sure it’s not the Gamepad, but unplugging it and checking performance makes sense. How long do crashes usually last? Did you play Elden Ring non-stop or was this a gradual issue? Also, have any other games been affected?

Just because a CPU or motherboard is a month old doesn’t mean it’s not caused problems—though I wouldn’t check that first thing if the info was clear. Still, I recently had my motherboard fail completely a couple weeks ago, and I replaced it (along with memory and CPU) because the other system had issues.
