PC is not working - GPU or power supply? It's unclear.
Hi, a few weeks back I asked for troubleshooting help regarding my GPU concerns. When I power on the PC, I hear an AMI error beep code indicating a graphics card issue (one long, two short), but there’s no display output or BIOS access—not even the GPU fans spinning. The rest of the system works fine, including the CMOS reset I did by removing the motherboard battery. Today I had a functional card to check if it was truly a GPU failure, and it still produced the same beeps. I’ve now tried running the GPU without a connected PCIe power connector; it activated its fans and showed a graphics-GPU-BIOS message asking to connect the GPU to power. At that moment, the issues reappeared. I’m wondering if my PSU might be the culprit—some time ago I accidentally overloaded my VRAM, trying to stop the graphics output to prevent a power spike that could have damaged the PSU. I’m not very familiar with PSU matters. Could you help identify what might be wrong with my setup?
Edit: I tested the GPU on another system and it worked perfectly. It could still be the motherboard or the PSU, but I’m unsure which to check based on what I have. Specifications: Ryzen 7 2700 GeForce GTX 1650 MSI A320M-A Pro Max motherboard, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x16GB @3200MHz, one 1TB HDD, one 256GB SSD, and a 420W PSU (likely several years old, possibly prebuilt). I haven’t overclocked except adjusting the RAM speed from 2666MHz to 3200MHz. Updated May 4, 2023 by Dr. Jekll
Could be that your PSU is not providing enough power to your GPU. Also possible that your PSU is dead due to power spike by overloading VRAM, I would try using a different PSU and see if that produces a display. If not then it could be that your GPU is failing.
