Recently I upgraded my previous setup to a new AM5 board and started facing difficulties after the initial boot attempt. Eventually, I managed to reach my desktop, but when I tried to restart into BIOS, it refused access. I then tried accessing BIOS via advanced startup, which brought back the same issues. Below are my system details:
Components:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650m Arous Elite AX
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- RAM: 2x16GB T-Force Vulcan DDR5 at 6000MHz CL38
- Power Supply: Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold
- GPU: Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
- Case: Corsair RM650
Attempts Made:
I own two AM5 boards (Asus Prime B650m-A AX and the one referenced earlier). I followed the listed specifications on each. Starting with the Asus board, everything functioned properly—no installation issues, power delivered, fans operational. But no boot. After confirming the GPU worked in my older AM4 system, I suspected RAM was the culprit.
I purchased new DDR5 RAM the following day but still couldn’t get a post. I explored every possible fix without success, so I ordered a replacement motherboard. After installing everything on the Gigabyte board, the issue persisted.
Further troubleshooting involved using a BIOS diagnostic tool. On both motherboards, I received beeps and lights indicating CPU, DRAM, VGA, and boot status. The CPU light would flash briefly before switching to DRAM, then to VGA. This pattern surprised me since the card was functional.
I tried another RAM set, hoping it would resolve the problem. It worked until an advanced restart occurred. Then the DRAM light reactivated, but when I pressed the power button to shut down, only the CPU power remained active—switching off one fan and another case fan.
I’m uncertain about the root cause. I’ve tried three different RAM configurations, all failing within minutes. Additionally, I noticed that my system would boot with RGB-capable RAM, but the display never appeared. This inconsistency is puzzling.
My first build went smoothly, yet this one is proving challenging. I’m reaching out for advice or guidance to resolve these persistent issues. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
You need to examine the power supply with two motherboards and varying RAM configurations. A device around $15–$20 USD can help you check voltage and wattage across all connectors. A multimeter or another power supply would also suffice. A 650W unit might fall short, especially if fans aren’t running, as I saw 600W without them on that site. Your setup includes RGB lighting and just one M.2 drive.
