I have a GTX 1070 Ti rig that has been working great for a long time. I get smooth frames all the time on most games. But today, something is wrong. It goes like this: five minutes of fine performance, then five minutes where it crashes to hell. During those bad times, my graphics card drops the frame count down to zero or near-zero every few seconds. I'm pretty sure my drivers are updated and that nothing changed between yesterday and now. Yesterday everything was normal. I tried refreshing Windows too, but it didn't help at all. It feels like things got worse since then. My task manager shows 100% usage when things get bad and 20 to 40 percent when they run smoothly. In games like Mordhau, I used to get about seventy-five frames per second normally. Now, every five minutes my frame count drops so low it almost stops completely. I checked all the cables and know it's not a power problem because my power supply is more than enough watts for my computer. I also know it's not heat because my GPU only gets up to fifty degrees Celsius while playing games, even when things are acting weird. I'm really stuck and would love some help from anyone who knows what to do.

AFAIK, sure. I don't know why the fans would spin up high. My 3700X has a Wraith Spire cooler on it, so I think they'd just sit there quiet. But where exactly do I check that? I don't even have any CPU monitoring apps installed yet.

Download MSI Afterburner, set up the OSD (on screen display), or go to userbenchmark.com and run a test. Link the results here after this. It will show you how well your computer is doing right now, and it will also tell us about the whole PC.
