PC: Intermittent internet loss on a single network occasionally
Hello, MOBO: ASUS ROG STRIX B760-A gaming Wi-Fi d4 motherboard with included antenna. Latest drivers are installed—no BIOS updates needed. Connection remains stable across multiple networks and hotspots. My phone and laptop function properly even when dropped on my home network. Dropping occurs intermittently, sometimes lasting 10 or 30 minutes regardless of load. During drops, I can occasionally see nearby networks and my own hotspot, but not the dropped one (home Wi-Fi). Sometimes the taskbar shows neighbor connections, possibly due to a slow UI refresh—only after opening Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi does it refresh and re-displays the lost connection. I contacted my ISP who suggested a factory reset, but that didn’t help. I haven’t updated the BIOS since building the PC; it’s risky to brick it, yet it seems unrelated to BIOS issues since other networks work. Could it be that at another home there were both 5GHz and 2.4GHz connections, with mine using only standard 2.4GHz WiFi 4 (802.11n)? The adapter uses the newest driver (6E AX211). Maybe my setup is rejected because it considers this outdated and insecure (WPA2 and WiFi 4). I’m running Windows 11 and dislike it—this might be contributing to the problem since no other devices connect smoothly. Fellow troubleshooters, what are your chances and recommended steps? Thanks ahead for any advice. Edit: Added three screenshots showing signal strength and extra details. I suspect interference from neighbors on the same channel might be the issue—blue appears in my photos. Updated October 23, 2023 by Elena. Added useful images."
Thanks for the feedback. It seems the router adjustments are managed by the service provider, so I’ll reach out again later to inquire. I also attempted to install the drivers from their site, but the setup process as an admin didn’t complete, and a temporary window appeared before closing. Could be Windows Defender is causing the issue?
Noted the issue. For others facing the same or related problems: I rely on a 2.4 GHz connection for my keyboard, which unexpectedly drops the internet link each time I power it up at startup—though it stabilizes afterward. I’m planning to switch to Bluetooth for the near future. Appreciate your assistance @TimedPing
It might be due to several access points, which can affect performance. With more APs, interference may decrease. You mentioned having just one router located behind two walls and your keyboard close to the PC.
