PC generates a rattling noise
Last week my PC started making an unusual rattling sound, similar to a fan hitting a cable but in a rhythmic pattern. I checked all the fans and turned them off, but the noise persisted, likely coming from the CPU area. Since I have an AIO cooler, there are no internal fans except those on the radiator. Recently I moved my radiator from the top to the front after installing new RAM, which was also my last PC cleaning session about four weeks ago. Five days prior I moved it again because the original placement made the radiator’s top not the highest point. For roughly a month the pump sat at the top, possibly causing damage. I’m unsure if this affected the pump but wanted to note it. I’ll add a YT video for reference. Here are my specs: CPU – i7-9700K @ 4.8 GHz; Cooler – Corsair H100i RGB PRO; GPU – Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070; RAM – G.Skill TridentZ Neo 32GB @ 3600 MHz; Storage – 1 SATA SSD, 1 HDD, 1 NVME SSD.
You might notice air trapped near your pump because it's sitting at the highest point for too long. If the pump stops working or gets blocked by this air, temperature readings will reflect the issue. If the pump fails completely, you'll need to swap it out and only restart it once you manage to remove or move the air bubbles.
The AIO pump could be faulty, meaning you may need to purchase a replacement. sorry
All systems are functioning properly and the noise isn't coming from the heater element, it must be the water pump.
I also had the same thought and that's what made me most nervous. But the temperatures are totally normal, everything is working just fine. I even tried moving my PC to try and remove the air bubbles, but it didn't help much. It's confusing—if it were broken, wouldn't the temps rise? Man... when you finally learn about PCs, this kind of thing usually happens.
This has been my complete experience thus far, honestly. I suspect there might be air trapped in the pump or radiator. Have you tried running the pump at maximum speed for a short time to release the air? You could also try adjusting its angle while it's operating. I recall a video by jayz2centz explaining how to properly set up an AIO and tilting the pump above the radiator caused rattling—though he didn’t demonstrate a solution. A guide from Corsair titled "How to: Fix rattling or bubbling sounds in AIO cooler" might be useful.
I cleared everything out, moved the radiator again, and when I powered up the PC I heard it shifting more from the bottom. It looks like the 100% my PSU is causing that rattling noise, likely from the PSU fan. The unit I have is a CORSAIR TXM650.
I attempted to secure the PSU more firmly, but most of the screws remain loose and the noise persists.
Consider taking it apart to reach the fan. It looks like the grill should come off easily. Spin it with your hand in the same direction it would when powered on, and see if the noise persists. If it still rattles, the bearing might be worn out. Updated: December 27, 2021 by Drogoc0p
