There were several instances when local MP/COOP disappeared. The first was the introduction of ADSL and online multiplayer games, which required splitting a small screen and dedicating all your gaming power to those services. The second was the early 2000s arrival of Steam, after which local multiplayer options vanished. Eventually, consoles became the main way to play games, while PCs offered more variety for casual or hobby use.
