PC frequently shuts down with BSOD errors?
Initially, a few weeks ago I started observing that my PC would become extremely sluggish while gaming, often freezing for half or even minutes before it would restart. The blue screens began to appear shortly after these freezes occurred. Now, if I leave my PC running for most of the day during gaming or streaming, it frequently triggers a blue screen 4 to 5 times daily.
My PC is around 5 to 6 years old, and I assembled it myself by researching which components were necessary and how to build it properly. Since then, it has been running fairly smoothly, with the only significant problem being the issues I’m currently facing. I wasn’t sure what details I could share that would help identify the cause of these frequent BSODs.
The situation has become so severe that I often put my PC into sleep mode, come back a few hours later, and wake it up to my desktop. It takes about 20 to 30 seconds to boot up again before immediately freezing while no web pages or major applications are active. I don’t recall the exact specifications of my PC, but I’m certain those details would be useful. I remember having an RTX 2070 graphics card and a Ryzen 2700x processor. I attempted to record the BSOD stop codes, but sometimes I wasn’t quick enough to capture them properly.
The codes I managed to note were:
Unexpected Store Exception
IRQL Not Less or Equal
and one related to memory.
Please let me know if you have any further information or suggestions on how to resolve this issue. I also checked my temperatures via HWmonitor, and I believe my CPU and GPU temperatures were within normal ranges after searching online. My general knowledge of PCs is basic, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide complete system details. List the specifications as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Writing BSoD codes is useless; the best approach is to share your .dmp files so we can analyze them and pinpoint the issue.
what exactly should i be checking for? i've attempted this before without the program open, but my pc would crash before i could press alt tab and open the task manager. usually, when i see it slow down, i can't click anything, but i notice my frames are dropping and the mouse pointer moves one frame at a time across the screen.
Have you attempted to power off the computer instead of using sleep mode to check for differences?
The problem might also stem from overheating parts. You can use HWInfo or HWMonitor to check system details, which should display temperatures.
Have you performed any cleaning for dust or dirt?
You likely have a CPU cooler installed, so if there are no logs showing it's open, you could open the case and inspect it. The 2700X seems to include a wraith prism downdraft cooler, so you might be using that one.
Take a look at the power supply and read the readings directly.
