In the last few months my PC has started to randomly shut off and restart. This started after water was spilt on the PC and bricked the MOBO. I bought a new one and installed it along with windows 11. Then a few weeks later it started. Its essentially like someone is just cutting the power completely off. It may go a week or so without happening. Then other times it may happen numerous times in a single day. This has happened when sitting on the desktop, browsing the internet, or gaming. I can't pin down the cause at all. Right now I believe the likely cause is either GPU, PSU, or an issue with Windows. A few weeks after it started I also got a BSOD once. I checked the dmp file and found it was a GPU driver issue. I used DDU in safemode to uninstall and then reinstalled the drivers. Recently I have noticed when it shuts off and it goes to restart it has failed a few times before successfully restarting(does not always happen). I have done memory test, drive tests, stress tests, scans to repair corrupt windows file, and other things that I honestly cannot remember now. I have not swapped out parts or reinstalled windows. I dont have parts to swap and really do not want to reinstall windows unless necessary. I figure I will start with reinstallation, then PSU, and finally GPU. However, I wanted to come to a forum first to see if someone else had any ideas.

The "memory test" involved assessing certain cognitive functions, and the outcomes indicated specific results.

I recommend reinstalling Windows after wiping the disk completely—remove all partitions and then install. Make sure to back up any data before proceeding. Please let me know what happens next.

I performed a fresh installation of Windows 11. So far, there are no problems. If anything arises, I will let you know. Thanks!

Reporting once more, it just shut down and restarted. Clearly a hardware problem. I think I’ll begin with a fresh PSU and proceed from there.

This is most likely the cause.

Reporting from here, rather than swapping the power supply immediately, I opted to fully take apart the PC just in case something was causing a short or malfunction. I even took out the GPU and thoroughly cleaned it using 91% iso. My suspicion about a short circuit was that sometimes the system wouldn’t auto-start, but would come back on when I gently moved the PC. When reinstalling the MOBO, I used all nine screws this time, whereas before I relied on just three or four. I’m not sure if this change would help, since I’ve always followed this method on my own builds. So far, only a few hours have passed and I’ve run stress tests with Cinebench, Prime95, and Unigine Superposition. I also played some games and watched YouTube without any problems. Still, I feel like this is the usual pattern. I’ll try different things and see if it returns to normal before reporting again after an update.
