I don't recall precisely what occurred, but I updated the drivers and OS on my computer. After installing the GPU driver (GTX 650), it would shut off briefly before turning back on, but the monitor wouldn't reactivate. The fans kept spinning even after power cycling. I powered down the system and restarted it; then an error appeared: "Power supply surges detected during the previous power on." Asus Anti-Surge activated to protect the system. I watched a YouTube tutorial suggesting disabling the Anti-Surge feature, which seemed risky. Could this have caused the issue? Did the motherboard short circuit or is there any advice you have? Also, most of the components I used were quite old, except for the SSD. Thanks if you can share your thoughts on this.

It seems unusual based on what I found online. If anti-surge is off, unplug the cable for a few minutes, then reconnect and test if it works.

You're experiencing some unusual behavior with your computer. It sounds like the motherboard might be overheating or failing, but you haven't noticed any smoke. When you try to power it on, the fans briefly spin for a few seconds before stopping and then restarting. This pattern could indicate a cooling issue or a failing component. It's important to investigate further to avoid damage.

It seems the system won't start at all. You might attempt to access the PC by opening it up. Disconnect the CMOS battery or short the clear CMOS jumper. Unplug all power cables from the motherboard and GPU. Allow it to rest for a few minutes without the battery connected, then reassemble everything. This should also reactivate anti-surge protection.

I'll attempt it tomorrow. Can you find a method to identify a shorted motherboard?

The motherboard should be shorted to check for issues. If something is dead, the power supply unit is usually the cause. If the motherboard is damaged, you might see burnt spots, but this isn't always easy to spot.
