PC failure – no screen or audible alert
Hi,
My old PC won't start properly. Pressing the power button triggers the cabinet fan, which then stops after a short time. It seems to restart on its own but again halts shortly afterward. No display or beep sounds are heard. The system is running without any issues. This pattern continues indefinitely. I have a Q6600 processor, Gigabyte G41 motherboard, 4 + 4 GB DDR3 RAM, and a 1000 GB SATA HDD. Any advice on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Arvind Gupta.
PSU: provide details on make, model, power rating, age, condition (original to build, new, used, refurbished)?
Shut down the device, disconnect it from power, and open the enclosure. Remove dust and any obstructions. Check visually and physically that all connectors, cards, RAM, jumpers, and case parts are securely installed. Employ a strong flashlight to look for any signs of wear or damage.
Consider using a clear CMOS. It might also be worth getting a new motherboard battery, which is often inexpensive.
Begin a fresh thread in the systems section. Refer to the guide in the link provided in your sig.
During the PC maintenance, I cleaned the internal components, replaced and reconnected the RAM, then switched the power on. I noticed the CPU fan was spinning and the HDD was attempting to start up. Suddenly, both the CPU fan and HDD stopped working. The CPU fan resumed operation and the HDD tried again but failed once more. This pattern kept repeating. There were no beep sounds from the MoBo or any visual indicators.
