Hey, I believe I damaged my motherboard. I’m financially strained and can’t take out the CPU since the thermal paste would be useless afterward. The USB3 M.ole port pins got messed up during troubleshooting, so I disconnected it. I reset CMOS, removed the GPU, and used integrated graphics. I reset the PC several times, then reinstalled the motherboard in a new case and reinserted the RAM. I double-checked all connections. It looks like the top layer of the PCB was removed near the screw holes because a free-spinning screw was present. I didn’t inspect the back side. When pulling out the remaining screws, it felt easy to lift the board off. In the standoff, I spotted part of that spinning screw. I swapped the standoff and screw, then reinserted the motherboard into the case. No photos yet, but I’m checking Allegro for a B550 Pro-VDH and a 1g aeronaut thermal paste, which should cost around 400 zł. If my dad’s budget covers it, I’ll go with a B450 for about 250 zł. Start the process by booting the system away from the case. Place it on cardboard to prevent any shorts. After moving it into the new case, were you certain all correct standoffs were present and positioned properly?

The cloth desk pad functions effectively without needing explicit cardboard. You don’t need to move the power supply or GPU outside the case unless you want to. Adjusting standoffs was necessary, but you didn’t damage the motherboard and only tightened connections when needed.

Cloth deskpad works. For testing, skip the GPU and use igpu instead, as long as you can get the PSU cables to reach without removing the PSU from the case. The main goal is to separate the motherboard from the case. If you had a higher standoff, did you attempt to power it up? I believe this might have shorted the motherboard on the standoff. Different motherboards handle this differently—about half the time it won’t power on at all or it fails completely. Hope it works out.

I handled the task carefully, using pliers to secure the standoffs tightly. This ensured there was no space between the case metal and the standoff body for my fingernail.
