PC fails to update with the new Ryzen 5. Possible BIOS problem?
I improved my computer by replacing the Ryzen 3 3200G with a Ryzen 5 5500. The system didn't start. All parts seem compatible with the Ryzen 3, and nothing appears broken. The CPU pins aren’t bent. My motherboard is an ASUS B450M AII, and the BIOS is up to date, which should support the new CPU. What might be wrong? I’m considering an older BIOS version or a TPM issue. I’m running Windows 11, so the TPM is active. Also, switching from an integrated GPU to a dedicated CPU might cause the motherboard to attempt using the Ryzen for display since the GPU fans aren’t working when I connect the Ryzen 5. I’m using: CPU – Ryzen 5 5500, GPU – RX 5700XT, Motherboard – MSI Mobo ASUS B450M AII, RAM – Kingston Fury 2x8GB at 3200Mhz.
The graphics card is an MSI model, and the motherboard is an ASUS unit. The BIOS version is 4202.
History: Your PC originally had a Ryzen 3 3200G with TPM on iGPU, but later swapped to a Ryzen 5 5500 with TPM still active. No iGPU symptoms appeared—computer didn’t POST. Monitor stayed black. Questions: How do you confirm it won’t POST? Do the NumLock keys or Caps Lock light up and toggle when pressed? Suggestions: Begin by resetting CMOS on your motherboard. If that fails, follow the provided steps in the guide, focusing on iGPU/GPU sections. Share your results and how much success you achieved. P.S. I’m really into chemistry—I was told to retake it twice.
The PC starts with a Ryzen 3 and a GPU or without one. It won’t post with a Ryzen 5 plus a GPU. The reason I talked about TPM was because some people disable it during hardware updates, which is why I mentioned it. I can assure everything functions properly. I’m not sure if the Ryzen 5 arrived damaged, but it has straight pins and fits without issues.
I've already gone through all the troubleshooting actions, and now I think the problem might be with the BIOS or the CPU itself. The keyboard doesn't work properly with the Ryzen 5.
It seems the TPM chip was installed on your CPU. You'll likely need to remove the hard drive and check if it starts up with the new processor and without it. Understanding the full setup is important—knowing where the TPM chips are (CPU, MOBILE, etc.) and how they affect reinstalling Windows or managing BitLocker will help. It would be useful to know if BitLocker is currently enabled or disabled.
