Hello, yesterday my computer stopped starting up normally. When I press the power button it briefly powers on, the red CPU indicator on the EZ-Debug of my motherboard appears, and I hear a click from the relay in my power supply before it shuts down. This cycle repeats repeatedly for a few seconds until the PC finally boots and everything functions correctly.

The frequency of this occurrence changes each time I try to start it. It can happen 3 times or more than 20 times.

I’ve listed what I’ve done and the components involved. The most unusual part was that when I tried to boot the PC without any case cables connected, it worked fine twice. I left the cables disconnected for a moment to reassemble the case, thinking I’d have to replace it, but the issue returned when I restarted.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My components are:
- MSI PRO Z690-P motherboard
- Intel I5-12600KF CPU
- Nvidia 1080 Ti graphics card
- Corsair DDR4 Vengeance (2x16) RAM
- Gigabyte GP-P750GM PSU
- Fractal North case

Could you confirm if there is another PSU available for testing?

I should have a 500W power supply nearby, just in case that isn't too low for the rest of the components, and I plan to give it a shot!

You have a slight issue with only a 500w PSU. Your GPU would like 600w and your CPU lacks integrated video.
You can try it, but a stronger PSU would be better.

Yeah, I upgraded my GPU a few years back,
Should I take it out and try using that 500W PSU instead?
Since the problem still shows up whether the GPU is connected or not, I don’t think it’s the GPU causing it.

Taking out the GPU indicates there is no video adapter available. Your CPU does not have built-in video support. Do you also have a less powerful GPU?

It seems like your PSU might be the issue.
Gigabyte has reported problems with your device:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Press/News/1930
Reach out to Gigabyte for a replacement, or consider upgrading to a more robust PSU.
Upgrading soon could mean a better graphics card that works well with a stronger PSU.
Warranty length matters—7 years is acceptable, but 10 or 12 years ensures a reliable unit.

Update ;
@COLGeek
I’m worried I can’t locate a 500W PSU, so I don’t have another one to test my system. When I left for work, I unplugged the PSU in anticipation of a long power outage, hoping it would reset something. After plugging it back in and waiting a minute to ensure power, it tried to turn on but only clicked once before stopping. It had to stay plugged in for some time to charge before it entered the startup loop but failed. This suggests a possible capacitor issue. I’m reaching out to the shop where I bought it, as it’s still under warranty, and I plan to have it checked or replaced.

It turned out to be the PSU, I obtained a replacement from the store I bought it from, and everything functions properly.
