Hey there, let me walk you through what happened in a clear order. About a month back, my computer began shutting down unexpectedly. At first, I thought it might be a power supply problem, so I tried replacing the PSU right away—after seven years it was overdue. But the issue didn’t stop there. When I replaced the PSU, my CPU got stuck to the cooler and I accidentally broke 5 or 6 pins during removal. Since the PC wouldn’t start, I went ahead and bought a new Ryzen 7 5800X (swapping it for the older 3700X). It was inexpensive, but the problem persisted.

I upgraded the PSU to a more efficient one with the same wattage and brand, and everything worked fine now. My original issue was resolved, but I discovered another problem: my system won’t boot with two RAM sticks unless I follow specific steps—like removing one stick, opening BIOS, saving settings, or forcing a shutdown. Even then, it didn’t work.

I tried resetting the CMOS, changing the battery, adjusting RAM speed and voltage, re-seating components, updating drivers, and even loosening the cooler a bit. I also experimented with different RAM configurations and settings found online. Still, nothing seems to fix the dual-RAM issue.

My current specs are: MSI Tomahawk Max B450, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (Wraith Prism cooler), Nvidia RTX 2070, Super EVGA Corsair Vengeance PRO DDR4 16GB (8+8), Corsair RM750e 2025, and a 1TB Samsung SSD. I mainly use this for gaming—older titles like Quake Live, CoD4 Promo, HL Deathmatch, Dirty Bomb, plus some AAA games and multiplayer titles. My main PC is still solid, running at 1080p with the new upgrade.

TL;DR: After several attempts and changes, my PC can’t boot with two RAM modules. I’m stuck and unsure what to do next.

use pure alcohol to clean your RAM without any oil inside. be careful not to harm tiny SMD components, as they’re delicate and can get damaged easily when cleaned with a cotton ball. you might be surprised by how effective it was for my PCs with wired issues.
