Here’s a concise version of the situation:

The PC has been experiencing blue-screening and frequent crashes over the past few days. Initial checks suggested a corrupt Windows beta installation, likely due to graphics driver issues. The user decided to reinstall Windows but encountered freezing during the process, with no booting past the motherboard logo.

Tried several fixes: rearranging RAM sticks, disconnecting devices except the keyboard, re-flashing BIOS, clearing CMOS, switching to a secondary on-board BIOS (Aorus Z390 Master Rev 1.0 supports two chips), re-flashing that version, creating two Windows installation media drives using two different external hard drives (one with Windows 10 setup and the other with Windows 11), toggling the CSM on and off while booting, ensuring the BIOS was UEFI enabled, and confirming there were no hardware LED issues.

I’m unsure if I’ve tried anything else, but I’m struggling to determine whether the problem lies with the motherboard or the CPU. Some users reported seeing the Windows installation logo when CSM was enabled, but it would freeze similarly to the Aorus logo.

Full hardware list:
- Intel i9-9900k
- Aorus Z390 Master Rev 1.0
- Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 8GB x4 (CMW16GX4M2C3200C16W)
- ASUS TUF RTX 3080
- Samsung 990 PRO NVME 2TB
- Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVME 500GB
- Samsung 850 SSD 500GB
- Seasonic 1300W Gold Power Supply

it froze during the reinstall, the setup is damaged and can't boot anything. essentially, no operating system available. did you install windows via this method or did you leave the installation media on the drive? try using the USB drive instead—connect it to a computer and start from there. if you still face issues, adjust the boot order in BIOS to give more priority to the USB drive. after installing, reboot and you should see windows appear 👍. unplug the USB, then reorder the boot sequence so the newly installed drive appears first.

I used the Windows Media Creation Tool and chose a USB drive after formatting both external hard drives to FAT32. When either was connected and I chose the drive displaying UEFI OS as the primary boot option, the PC automatically displayed the AORUS logo and paused. Switching to CSM mode and selecting just the drive (showing only the drive name) brought up the Windows logo before freezing on that screen.

where exactly are you planning to mount windows onto? the external hard drive or another location? did you ever use the usb for booting and installing to a hard drive? also, when installing to a hard drive, make sure it isn't fat32, since it has its own restrictions. it should be formatted as NTFS instead.

I'm relying solely on the external hard drive for the installation process. The target is a 970 Evo Plus NVME SSD that already had my prior Windows setup. Yesterday I managed to progress halfway through the Windows install, but I still needed to format the older version of Windows before I could boot.

consider using a usb drive for installation; sometimes issues arise when transferring from a hard drive. if you have another computer available, you might install windows onto an ssd there and then transfer it to the current pc as a backup option.

I only have these external hard drives that I've used many times before as my installation method. However, there was another choice I was thinking about, but I only have a laptop and don't think it can support a full-sized NVMe SSD for installing it there.

It appears the setup consistently encounters issues, but no specific error codes or diagnostic messages are provided for troubleshooting.

Earlier today I managed to access the external drive and Windows setup interface, but the installation froze after loading the BIOS screen. After several attempts it stopped entirely beyond that point. No error message appeared, the motherboard status lights showed no issues, though at one moment they displayed the VGA LED which was later turned off.

The motherboard code indicates A0, which signifies "IDE Initialization has started." This happens at the precise instant the computer freezes each time. Might this point to a hardware problem?
