Woke up finding the PC won’t start
Left my machine overnight and upon waking it was powered off and not booting. It was built in February of this year with an Asrock Z690 Extreme, 12600k, 3080, G skill Ripjaws, EVGA 850G XC supernova. When I pressed the power button, the motherboard displayed a red flash. I reinserted the RAM one by one but it kept flashing red. After unplugging the GPU, the issue persisted. Cleared CMOS, disconnected all MBO cables except the 24-pin and CPU power cables, then connected the PSU—still no boot. From what I found online, this suggests the motherboard isn’t receiving power from the PSU? The manual doesn’t seem to offer any guidance.
The CPU, DRAM, BOOT, and VGA LEDs on the bottom right of the motherboard never lit up during this process.
I’m considering the PSU or the motherboard might be the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, this is my second build and I haven’t encountered any issues with this setup so far. I’ve never overclocked and used different power outlets as well.
turn off the PSU completely, unplug all USB devices and disconnect the power cable. Hold the power button for one minute. The PC might briefly come to life for a minute, which is normal as fans spin. This process removes power from all components, draining the motherboard capacitors. Ensure your RAM is placed in slot 2 and 4 (the second slot from the CPU cooler and the last one).
So I didn’t see that message yesterday, no way. I left it off overnight without power, just tried what you suggested, now I’m not seeing any flashing lights on the motherboard except a short single flash when I connect the PSU. I tried again and it’s still the same.
There seems to be a new issue, I found an old PSU and connected the 24-pin and one CPU cable. It started working, RGB lights appeared on the motherboard, fans began spinning, but I haven’t connected it to a monitor yet. The DRAM, BOOT, and VGA lights are on in the bottom-right corner of the motherboard. The GPU isn’t plugged in. It might be normal after clearing the CMOS, but I’m not sure. Should I connect the monitor now or try reinstalling the GPU first?
