PC fails to start after the upgrade from Ryzen 3000 to 5000 models
I recently tried to upgrade my CPU from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but the computer won’t turn on at all with the new CPU. No spinning fans or anything. I went back to double check that the old one still worked, and it does. I already updated my BIOS, but maybe I should try that again… There is also a small amount of thermal paste on the pins of the new CPU, so I’ll be cleaning that off carefully while I wait for a response here, lol.
Getting thermal paste into the socket and onto the pins is a big mistake. How did you manage that? It seems you might need to clean the socket thoroughly if possible. Usually, after installing a new CPU, you should update the BIOS. You said you did it already, but I’d double-check by putting in the previous CPU just to confirm it’s the latest version. Sometimes it still fails and doesn’t respond. After cleaning, if there’s no response at all, that’s a red flag for the CPU. Ensure XMP settings are cleared, as the system should reset properly when the new CPU is installed.
