Setup details: CPU Ryzen 7 5800x, motherboard Asus ROG Strix B550-F (latest BIOS), RAM 4x 8GB DDR4 G.Skill Trident-Z 3600MHz, power supply 850W Bequiet straight power, GPU 6800X MSI gaming trio (new driver version), operating system Windows 10 64-bit Pro (latest), no recent use for 5 days (PSU off and unplugged), displays remained off initially, after reboot short beep followed by VGA-led beep code, PCI cables connected correctly. Tried installing GPU in second PCIe x16 slot and resetting BIOS, but issue persisted. Tested on another system (Ryzen 3600, Gigabyte B450 MB, 16GB 3600MHz RAM, same PSU), same error occurred. Replaced BIOS and connected only one monitor via HDMI after reading about potential issues with ASUS MBS without HDMI. Error repeated whenever HDMI was disconnected during boot (VGA-led, 1 long 3 short beeps). All DP ports failed to send signals to monitors. Since BIOS reset, I can't adjust RAM or CPU frequencies without the PC entering a boot loop. Uncertain if problem stems from motherboard, PSU, GPU, or possibly the HDMI connection. I also own an MSI Gaming Z Trio (RTX3080 version). I connected all three power cables individually from the PSU to the GPU's connectors without using a daisy-chain setup. I've never experienced any issues, even when overclocking. My HDMI is linked for hardware monitoring and my main monitor uses a DP connection.
I've configured the PCI power cables exactly as you did. My 2 monitor setup runs smoothly through DP since May 2021, and I can still upgrade my GPU without any problems—it performs just as expected. I can disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable while the PC is running without issues. The only limitation is not having an HDMI connection when trying to power on the PC or use any of the DP outputs. I think I'll need to replace parts until I identify the source of the issue, starting with the motherboard.
Your CPU relies solely on an integrated graphics unit. This might have made it simpler to diagnose the problem. At this stage, based on your earlier troubleshooting steps, your power supply unit seems like the most likely source to investigate. It could be the root cause of these issues. Make sure to test the PSU before proceeding.
