He’s trying to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 7 5800X. We’re having trouble getting the installation to work over Discord. I made sure the CPU was properly seated and the cooler was firmly in place, but we’ve tried removing the CMOS battery, changing the pins, and reinserting it. No visible issues with the pins. It might just need a BIOS update since it’s a significant jump between generations. The motherboard is a Gigabyte B450 Aorus M with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM (dual channel, exact speeds not confirmed). Consensus reached on the initial release of B450 with Zen+ support, limited to Zen and Zen+ in BIOS (F1 on the CPU support page). If your friend hasn't updated the BIOS, they're likely missing features introduced in March 2021.

It doesn't allow bios flashback features such as those on motherboards, but you can update the BIOS via the BIOS utility. A usb drive formatted with FAT32 containing the BIOS file is required, and you'll need to reinstall the old CPU for this process.
We created a flash drive formatted as FAT32 and allocated the exact 32 gigabytes. We downloaded the newest BIOS update from Gigabyte’s website for his motherboard and inserted it onto the drive. After entering BIOS, we clicked “update BIOS,” where the file appeared but whenever we selected it and double-clicked, a “Can't read file” message kept appearing. Ensure the BIOS firmware is not stored in a compressed folder or inside the USB flash drive. Transfer only the standalone BIOS file to the drive. We successfully updated the BIOS to the newest version (he mistakenly pressed the wrong button) and confirmed the change in system details. Now he’s going to reinstall the 5800X, and we’re hoping it will function properly.
