I'm assembling my initial setup and faced a problem with the power switch. It's connected and lights up, but the computer won't start. I've checked various connections and tried different pins, but nothing works. Could this tampering have contributed? I found the manual online and followed the suggested steps, yet the PC remains unresponsive. All parts are connected and compatible. Did I miss something? Is the power supply insufficient or faulty? What additional checks or research might help identify the issue? Any guidance would be appreciated.

The exact i5 model you're using matters because there are two LGA1151 variants that support different CPUs. Randomly connecting the power button to various header locations on the front panel was likely not ideal. You can locate the manual for your board here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards-Com...sk_Manual/. Although the header layout for an Asus B450 board may be similar, it's not something I'd take for granted. Are the CPU power cables securely connected?

It's possible that an incorrect i5 could stop the system from turning on. Your choice of bridging wasn't ideal, and even though the manual says the EATX power cable is connected, it might still not work.

Absolutely. The system won't start with a mismatched CPU. Once more, what model is this? It clearly states "i5" right at the top of the heat spreader.
