No shame, most everyone has done it at some point. Thats why we suggest the tsing step. At least you were big enough to admit it. And fixed is fixed, good job.
Additionally, I encountered the same issue and discovered this discussion while looking for a fix. In my situation, the cable connector had incorrect labeling, so it didn't function as intended—I placed it according to the small arrows on the motherboard, and the connector responded. This was a Phanteks model.
I joined just to address this matter since I verified the same problem and solution on an ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro WiFi II. The header displayed an arrow that matched my front panel cable, but the board wouldn’t power on. I checked the thread and confirmed the connection works—board activates and USB access is available. I also own a Phanteks Enthoo 719 case, which proves it’s possible. Thanks!
I also experienced the same issue where the PC wouldn't start for just a brief moment. The USB-C cable had the arrow positioned incorrectly. I matched it with the arrows on the motherboards, and after flipping it around, it booted up normally.
