PC fails to identify USB devices upon restarting.
I recently assembled a new PC and everything functioned normally for a short period before my microphone stopped responding after the system booted. Once I reconnected it, it worked again. This issue recurred approximately every sixth reboot and gradually affected other peripherals as well, though it mostly impacted my microphone. It might be related to the fact that it’s the only wired USB device connected, although it could also involve my wireless mouse and keyboard using the 2.5GHz dongle.
I attempted various solutions without success:
- Updated all USB drivers via Device Manager.
- Reinstalled BIOS.
- Disabled USB selective suspend.
- Turned off FastBoot.
- Ran the SFC Scannow command in Command Prompt.
- Disabled automatic USB shutdown for safe power.
- After these attempts, I purchased a new motherboard in the hope it would resolve the problem, but the same issue persisted, accompanied by a Windows error message indicating the last connected USB device failed and that Windows couldn’t recognize it. Reconnecting might help temporarily, but only after several reboots.
- I also considered the possibility of a failing power supply unit (PSU), though this seemed unlikely given that my PC operated normally under full GPU and CPU load.
- Peripherals were tested on a different machine for a week without problems, suggesting the issue might be specific to this setup.
- I performed a fresh installation of Windows 11 Pro (23H2) after replacing the motherboard.
I’m at a loss for answers, as the PC itself functions perfectly. Do you have any suggestions?

Updated the BIOS. Did you reset the CMOS after confirming your motherboard's BIOS was successfully updated? What is the current BIOS version? Where did you obtain the Windows 11 installer? Were you installing the operating system in offline mode? What operating system are you using? Did you download the chipset installer from AMD's support site? You should also install all the latest drivers for your platform in an elevated command, such as right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
If this didn't work, you eventually decided to purchase a new motherboard.
Mobo: Present model: Asus ProArt X670e Creator wifi - Previous model: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX. Did you reinstall the operating system after replacing the motherboard? What type of storage device is connected to your system?
I haven't cleared the CMOS yet after updating my bios, so I'll give it another try.
The current bios version is PROART X670E-CREATOR WIFI BIOS 1905.
I downloaded the installer from the microsoft website and used the media creation tool with a USB stick. I installed Windows 11 in online mode because the installer required an internet connection, and after the motherboard swap I completely reinstalled Windows.
The operating system version is 23H2.
For the CPU chipset drivers, I used those from the Asus website, which also included the bios update.
I also installed all the necessary drivers with administrator privileges.
My storage setup consists of two SSDs, a Samsung 970 evo plus one TB, and a Samsung SSD 980 pro 2TB, with the 970 evo serving as the OS drive.
I also want to mention that the two SSDs were from my previous build and worked perfectly.

There was a flaw in the AMD AGESA code for the latest BIOS versions. It matched the same problems you mentioned. A quick fix with a new BIOS update helped, though it didn’t work on all systems. Through testing, it seemed lowering the SOC voltage by a small amount resolved the disconnections. I’ve only discussed this with another user recently, but I couldn’t locate the original thread. One of the mods here mentioned the solution. I’ll try to track it down. Clearing CMOS might also assist.
In fact, I found the discussion. Although it talks about the Zen 3/AM4 architecture, you might still try the SOC adjustment.
